REVERSE ENGINEERING

Today’s young designers and architects, globally rely too much on digital manifestations of physically built environments. This design process only leads to undefined and abstract assembly of materials and spatial constructs that is in the mercy of the software that they deploy. The workshop develops each student’s understanding of designing thru physical process of design. This process expands each student’s understanding of form, space, scale, tectonics and materiality that defines architecture. The model making procedure is explored to develop architectural forms and tectonics. The physical models are then reconstructed into digital software for manipulation. This process of reverse engineering allows more fluid design process that awakens the student to reality of architecture and its physical phenomena it bears. The final projects embrace the totality of design processes that is coded with the knowledge of architecture that imbues the articulation of real world conditions. It is this important process an architect can interrogate the physical presence of the built environment through the bodily act of making.
